Well, since all the circuitry within the laser would probably be 24th century, then I would end demonstrating it's power, getting some investors, and setting up a phaser plant.
I would then start an arms race that would make myself millions, and my investors billions.

Me, Oh the fun. I would help people but I would also zap a few people to death. Only the ones that get on my nerves. Only one problem I have found- what about recharging the phaser? There has to be a charger too.
