I don't know if this is any officer from any series or just from the voyager series? If its from the Voyager series I guess I would have to say either Chakotay or Tuvok, either one of them I think could have done what needed to be done to get the crew home without all of the emotion involved with every decision that Janeway had or the curiosity to explore every single planet they came across, or the fact that she was unpredictable one minute she didn't care about federation laws when there was nothing at stake but then when the really tough decisions had to be made federation law was her religion even if it meant she could get home quicker. Now if it was any officer from any series I guess I would have to go with William Riker he seemed like a good guy but if he was stranded 70,000 light years from home it would have given him a chance to show his true color and not hide behind Picard. It might have brought him down a peg or 2.

Pfff.. if ST hadn't been all about exploration, curiosity, emotion and the dilemmas of crossing the rules or not, then TNG's famous introductory words would have been: "To boldly go.... home, with the first bus!"
And you don't mean Will "Hothead" Riker?? Who gets into fistfights, amorous relationships and the sort? Compared to him, Janeway is cool as ice.

Riker may have been a hothead but the point I was trying to make was that he was offered multiple commands but never took any he was hiding behind Picard. Hey I was all for exploration it just seemed the Janeway's character was written a little wishy washy. She just didn't seem to be all there all the time she kind of flip flopped a lot. Also I'm suprised the series lasted as long as it did I mean the whole delta quadrant thing got old after about season 4 how many times did it seem like the writters took and old script and changed a few names? I mean a lot of trek series had their low points, I dunno I guess I just never really got into the Voyager series because of Janeway's character that could be my bias. But then again this is a thread for Opinions.

Yes, I have seen many people contest Janeway. Most of them cannot come to terms with a female captain.I think she did her job admirably, but of course that's just my opinion. I really liked the Voyager plots, actually I like them best of all the Trek Universe. As you say all series have their low points, I think Voyager's was Season 3, I myself found that series to have flattened everything a bit. But with Seven coming in from season 4 it all picked up quite nicely, and not -as our female forum members say- 'cause of her boobs, she really brought in a new topic, the Borg episodes were really nice.
With Riker I'm the same as you are with Janeway: I thought he was too superficial and full of himself, but that didn't stop me from enjoying all TNG, and neither did that horrible Wesley. Sometimes it's good to step over our biases.
