Well hello everyone.
My name is Matt, aka Typical. I am 29, married with two young boys, two dogs and a cat. I live in North Carolina. I enjoy everything from rock climbing and trail running to geeking out on the computer RPing and obviously watching Star Trek.
I am not exactly sure what else to put in here so please feel free to ask.

Thank you both.
I am going to have to go against the grain here and say VOY and DS9.

Thats all well and good Valathous, I be a transplant and I am originally from Iowa. I am only in NC because I am stationed here.
But I am not so much a fan of hockey. Any sport that requires a player to wear pads is no sport to me.
It is all about rugby .

A lot of my family is into rugby, not myself however. It does look like an interesting and brutally awesome game, but not something I've ever looked into.
And hockey, they wear pads because otherwise people would die, lol. I'll show you some evidence of brutal play if you want me to. What other sport only gives you a 5 minute penalty for getting in an actual fight and lets you ram people into wooden boards or fly at people incredibly fast (due to the ice) and just lay a shoulder into the chest. Without the pads, people would die.
*edit*
Not to mention a small vulcanized rubber puck being fired at sometimes over 100mph.

You have obviously never played speed ball.
Don't worry, no one else has either. We kind of made it up.
I am not saying it is not a tough game. Just not one for me.
Die from hockey with no pads? Cool. I call that natural selection. I kid I kid.
But anyway here is a rugby fight Yeah yeah, that one is kind of weak, but hey its the French. What do you expect.
Here are a few decent hits

lol, poor guys.
Yeah, when I was in high school there was a rugby team rather than a hockey team (since most public high schools can't afford their own arena, lol). A few of my friends were on it. I hadn't hit my growth spurt yet, so I didn't try out.
And I've done my fair share of injuring people in hockey, lol.
Here, take a look at this if you get a moment

I've seen some harder hits than those, but that's a decent example.
I'll watch that rugby fight now. And heeeeey, I'm French-Canadian, so watch it, . We're tough SOBs.

Cool vid.
This is a debate that could go on till time ends. But I have to drop the kids off at the babysitters and get to the game. I will be back later in the evening.
hockey is fine by me. Just so long as you don't start debating the merrits of soccer we will be good .

I liked that hit video you showed me. There were some spine-busters in that. The fight was kinda wimpy, though. I'll find you some hockey fight videos later if you'd like. Maybe "Vendredi St-Brawl" or the Senators vs. the Sabres. Those are some good ones.
Chris "Knuckles" Nilan,
And I like soccer, Zidane was my fav player. But I will concede that most soccer players are the biggest bunch of sissies next to basketball players.

You start supporting the french teams, and I'll have to go Todd Burtuzzi on your arse.

Hey Val (do you mind if I call you Val?) Like I said the fight video was of two French teams. So if they fight like that you can only imagine how the Scots or Brits fight.
Yeah Scot rugby is much more fun to watch.
You should see some of the fights the 2 Mar Div team gets into.

Yeah, the Scots and the Brits are typically violent in sports from what I've seen, lol. What about the Australians?

Oh the Aussies are just plain old crazy. Ya know the old saying about rugby?
"Soccer is a gentleman's sport played by hooligans, and rugby is a hooligan's sport played by gentlemen."
Well the Aussies are hooligans playing a hooligan's sport.

Cool, looks like a slow night in the barracks.
Ya will see a big difference between the fights in rugby and hockey.
Hockey you will normally only get two guys throwing punches. Rugby you have two TEAMS going at it when a fight starts and they do not stop at punches. I bear the scars on my chest to show drop kicks with spikes .
Here is a good vid about the differences between soccer and rugby. It should make you laugh.

Mk, so rugby gets the one for drop kicking with spiked shoes. If they tried that in hockey with a skate blade, people would die and others thrown in jail. (Happens by accident from time to time. Clint Malarchuk got hit in the jugular by a skate. Made it to the dressing room just in time. Donald Audette had his wrist sliced. Same thing, got help just in time).
Time to bring out the team fights
Montreal Canadiens vs. Quebec Nordiques in "Vendredi St-Brawl" between the 2 French teams of the league (Quebec is now Colorado, )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYnfRDwhaLM
Ottawa Senators vs. Buffalo Sabres

Colorado Avalanche vs Detroit Red Wings

*Edit*
I just watched your soccer vs rugby clip. That was pretty funny, . But I already knew most soccer players were made of glass, .
