i.e. The story says that Goldilocks ate the "porridge" because she was "hungry". But what would Freud say?

yeah, I'm serious. we can all read a book and get down with some hard core analysis and discussion no seriously. anyone interested?

I don't know... maybe we should all think of one and then vote on it?

Book club sounds interesting, I'd be up for it.

My nomination would be for 'Illusions' by Richard Bach.

The Poisonwood Bible is about a baptist preacher and his family who go to the Congo during the 60s (and political turmoil there). It's basically a journey where the family discovers how religion and Americanization have held them back from actually living. The name Poisonwood Bible comes from the father/preacher Nathan, who selfishly tries to convert souls in the Congo for his own good. In Congolese there is a word that means "savior" but if the word is pronounced incorrectly, which Nathan does, it means the Poisonwood tree that makes people sick. Anyway... it's not religious, but raises a lot of good thought and questions. and very well written

'Illusions' is a rather unusual book about a man named Richard who meets up with a guy named Donald Shimoda. Both fly biplanes, and Shimoda happens to be a miracle worker who gave up the job of 'Messiah'. It's basically a musing on the universe and what it is using the two characters. And no, it doesn't cross too many religious lines, steers pretty clear of that. It's just a very...interesting book. And for length, it's not too excruciatingly long, about 200 pages, and that's in rather large print.

There ya' go.

hehehe. It was really excellent, you can't exactley judge by a summary, but I'll summarize anywho,

By: Caleb Carr

It takes place in the late 1800's when Teddy Roosevelt served as cheif of police for NYC. There's a serial killer going around killing young boy prostitutes. So then an alienist (back in the late 1800's-early 1900's, they were people who worked with the mentally ill [they were thought to be "alienated" from the rest of society]), a journalist (narrator), a sercretary, and two brothers who do forensics get together to stop him. It's reaaaaaaaally good.

Not sure if it's for a book club though,

I'd suggest you'd all read it!! I think Caleb Carr has a degree in history (of NYC in particular), so you know he knows what he's talking about.

Thomas or Theresa, I'll so send you a copy,

naw, man. we need books that actually have literary merit Star Trek book are fine for escapism... yeah, I read them all the time, but to discuss intellectually... we need some meaty stuff

Alright... looks like it's Poisonwood then. Just to warn you all, it's pretty long. So if no one's really in to a long book, let it be heard cause it looks like thats what we're reading.
